Darkside Press & Midnight House
an Introduction
We have two imprints with very distinct philosophies
behind each. As a long-time book collector I discovered some years ago that just because I enjoyed a particular's work
that alone did not necessarily mean that the New York publishing establishment agreed with me to the extent that all books
that I thought worthy of publication would eventually be accorded the treatment that I felt they deserved and be preserved
in attractive hardcover editions. In fact, it became apparent that some books might not ever exit unless I produced them myself...
Midnight House was launched with the idea that if a contemporary
writer with a good agent has difficulty placing their short story collections in the current market, how much more difficult
must it be for the Estate of an author that's been long out of print or never collected at all? Not every great
writer of weird fiction had an August Derleth to champion their cause as did Lovecraft or an Estate dedicated to keeping their
works in print as did several other authors. Basically, we publish books that I want in my collection that I think other
folks might want too...
This idea has
grown to include supernatural novels from authors such as Mark Hansom, R.R. Ryan, & J.U. Nicolson that are either extremely
difficult to come by or extremely expensive in their original editions.
Our collections range from reprints of fabulously rare
books such as Dick Donovan's The Corpse Light (originally titled Tales of Terror) and Clive Pemberton's
The Weird O' It to volumes that have never existed in any form at all such as new translations of work by masters of the form such as Jean Ray; and comprehensive collections of the
weird fiction of authors such as G. Ranger Wormser, John H. Knox, and Joseph Payne Brennan. We also will be offering collections by modern masters who are firmly entrenched in "The
Weird Tales Tradition"; such as David A. Riley. Darkside
Press exists to do essentially the same thing in the Science Fiction genre. A focus is on comprehensive multi-volume sets
by classic authors such as Clifford D. Simak, Daniel F. Galouye, and Cleve Cartmill as well as presenting some single volume
"Best of" collections by authors such as William F. Temple. We will also publish the occasional contemporary volume,
such as the planned Day Star Omnibus by Mark Geston; which will finally gather the remaining work by this great author
that has as yet to be collected in hardcover format.
For retailers, we offer a standard discount and sales support via reviews and
advertising in key markets. For our direct customers, not only are individual copies avilable, but we also offer a subscription
service that eliminates the worry of missing a title that quickly goes out of print and may include some "extras"
such as signed copies when such are available. Take a look through the following pages, we're sure that you'll
find something of interest...
